Claressa Shields has had her say on the careers of Roy Jones Jr and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Jones rose to prominence during the nineties and established himself as one of the most ferocious fighters on the planet during his peak. He captured world titles in four weight classes throughout his tenure, defeating the likes of James Toney, Bernard Hopkins and Mike McCallum.

As for Mayweather, the retired pound-for-pound superstar is often regarded as being one of the very best to have ever laced up the gloves. He remained unbeaten for the entirety of his professional career, boasting victories over a number of generational greats including Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao.

Three-weight undisputed champion Shields has shared her thoughts on who had the better prime between Mayweather and Jones, revealing her verdict in an interview with K.O. Artist Sports.

“I gotta say Roy I think, I gotta say Roy.”

Jones and Mayweather have been going back and forth over the last few weeks, with rumours now circulating that the all-time-greats could actually face each other in an exhibition bout.

Mayweather has not fought as a professional since he defeated MMA legend Conor McGregor back in 2017, whilst Jones’ last ring appearance came against another MMA great in Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis in April of 2023.

The 56-year-old from Pensacola has left the door open for a return to the ring since he was beaten by Pettis, although it remains to be seen whether the once formidable American will lace the gloves up one more time.
