Three-weight undisputed champion Claressa Shields has shared her thoughts on the upcoming controversial match-up between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul.
Unbeaten three-weight world champion ‘Tank’ Davis is gearing up to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul in a scheduled ten round exhibition clash at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida on Friday November 14.
It was announced at the launch press conference that the controversial clash would have a maximum weight limit of 195lbs in place, with both fighters required to wear 12oz gloves on fight night.
Davis last fought at the lightweight limit of 135lbs back in March when his WBA lightweight title defence against Lamont Roach Jr was declared a majority decision draw after a closely fought 12-rounds in New York City.
Paul made his return to the ring on June 28 as he defeated Mexico’s former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their ten round cruiserweight bout in Anaheim.
The fight has garnered plenty of opinions from the boxing world, and now female superstar Shields has chimed in with her take in a social media video, making it clear what she wants to happen in the bout.
“I don’t know [who’s going to win]. Tank better whoop Jake Paul’s ass. I ain’t even gonna hold you.”
Although Davis is known for his thunderous punching power, which has allowed him to defeat 28 of the opponents that he has faced during his career via stoppage, the 30-year-old from Baltimore will be stepping into unknown territory when he locks horns with Paul later this year, a man who could prove to be a serious threat to the unbeaten lightweight champion.
