Steve Collins Fought Both Nigel Benn And Chris Eubank Sr Twice And Has No Doubt Who Hit Harder

Irish boxer Steve Collins remains defeated both Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr.

These three were involved in some of the most memorable super-middleweight clashes of their era along with the likes of Michael Watson and emerging talent like Robin Reid and Joe Calzaghe.

Collins fought Benn and Eubank Sr twice during the 1990s, firstly beating Eubank in March 1995 when he won by unanimous decision and ended his rival’s long unbeaten streak as well as taking the WBO super-middleweight title off him.

The pair fought again in September of that same year when once again Collins came out victorious and defended his title successfully in another close, bruising battle. Not a year later, Collins went into the ring with the fearsome and famously aggressive Benn, scoring two stoppage wins back-to-back.

Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Collins admitted it was ‘The Dark Destroyer’ who did most damage with his shots out of the two.

“Nigel Benn hit the hardest. I don’t even think Benn knew how hard he hit to be honest (laughs). Nigel caught me flush in the first fight and I thought he had broken all of my teeth and this horrible taste filled my mouth. I actually felt sick to my stomach and nobody had ever hit me like that before.”

Collins fought twice more in 1997, beating Frederic Seillier and Craig Cummings to defend his belt before hanging up his gloves for good.
