Jaron Ennis is set to make his debut at super welterweight to continue to make his case as one of the brightest stars in boxing.
The switch-hitter from Philly became unified welterweight world champion with a sixth-round stoppage win over Eimantas Stanionis last time out, however he has said post-fight that he still isn’t performing his best due to a tough weight cut.
The 154 lbs divisions beckons, with ‘Boots’ already having vacated one of his titles and likely the second soon. He will be met by a host of top fighters including the likes of Vergil Ortiz Jr and Sebastian Fundora.
Another man who has thrown his name into the mix is Keith Thurman, a fellow former unified champ at 147 who made his return to the ring in March after three years out. In his own debut at 154, Thurman stopped Brock Jarvis inside three rounds.
Speaking to Mill City Boxing, ‘One Time’ – who has lost just once in his campaign to Manny Pacquiao – said Ennis gets ‘clocked’ by lesser fighters than himself and urged him to send a contract.
“Everybody still see you getting clocked. You ain’t been clocked by the right ones, man. I’m back. Run it. Stop playing. Put it together, you’ll get the best fights. Thurman fights … I’m just trying to get back up where I belong, back up to the top.”
Ennis has been strongly linked to knockout artist Ortiz Jr, however the latter’s team say he requested two tune-up bouts in the division before making the fight happen. Ennis’ promoter Eddie Hearn has assured fans that it will take place in 2026.
