Conor Benn is prepared to take on an undefeated champion in his next fight.
Benn is coming off the back of a loss against generational rival Chris Eubank Jr, however, he put on a good showing across the 12 rounds and his stock has risen as a result.
After making a fast and fierce start, the fact he was the considerably smaller man began to show, and Eubank imposed himself enough to take a unanimous points win on the cards to settle their long-standing beef.
Benn is keen for the contracted rematch, however there is a chance that both men could go their seperate ways.
Should that be the case, the 28-year-old has had an offer from undefeated lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson, who said on social media he is prepared to move up to super-welterweight to face him, even despite Benn’s natural class being welterweight.
“I’d go to 154lbs for Conor Benn … I’m gonna pick you apart. Too sharp, too much speed, too smart. And hitting me with a big shot gonna be the last thing you do.”
Benn didn’t hesitate to reply,
“You wanna do it next Shakur? Let’s run it. No cheap talk.”
WBC belt holder Stevenson, who has also won world titles at featherweight and super featherweight, is a highly talented fighter with great ring IQ, technical skills and footwork, However, he has often been criticised in the past for playing it safe and cruising to points wins without really engaging his opponent.
The Brit’s aggression and size advantage in this match-up may present an intriguing factor, however many fans will feel the two stars have plenty more to focus on in their own respective divisions. In that regard, Stevenson will defend his WBC Lightweight belt against number one contender William Zepeda on July 12 in New York.
