Conor Benn continues to be one of the most talked-about men in and around the welterweight division.

Benn has not yet won or even fought for a world title, but his name is right up there with some of the biggest in the current boxing landscape.

His last two fights were both against his long-time generational rival, Chris Eubank Jr, and both went quite differently. The first saw Benn, despite being aggressive and fighting on the front foot, lose a unanimous decision.

He had to wait six months to do it all again but, back in November, he flipped the script. This time, Benn fought well behind his jab and clearly dominated an under par Eubank to take a unanimous points win of his own.

The 29-year-old is now pursuing a world title, and there are plenty of targets in the States, but Britain’s newly crowned Josh Kelly has now also called him out for a fight.

Speaking to iFL TV, the Sunderland man who spectacularly snatched the title from dangerous Bakhram Murtazaliev this weekend said he would be happy to take on his fellow Brit.

“You know it make sense. You know it f*****g makes sense. We’ve got the belt baby, 154, what’s the Stadium of Light saying?”

Kelly’s trainer, Adam Booth, added:

“Ask DAZN if they want a big domestic dust-up … If it makes money, it makes sense … And, he can drop back down to welterweight if he loses fighting for this [belt].”

The fight would require Benn to fight at 154lbs again rather than his desired 147, though many feel that this would be a smart move in his quest to drop back down – doing it slowly after making 160 twice for Eubank.

He has, however, also called out Shakur Stevenson, Rolly Romero and the winner of the fight between Mario Barrios and Ryan Garcia later this month, with all of those his preferred options to Kelly.
