Pete Dobson was the last man to fight Connor Benn.
The contest came back in February 2024 while Benn was still prohibited from fighting in the UK after failing a drugs test ahead of his ill-fated fight with Chris Eubank Jr.
It took place out in the United States and, though Benn came out aggressively from the first bell, he ended up going the full 10 rounds with the American and didn’t manage to secure a knockdown.
Despite that, the Brit won a unanimous decision with the cards reading 119-109, 118-110 and 118-110 in his favour and Dobson taking his first loss.
Speaking to Tru School Sports, Dobson conceded Benn can punch but he’s not the biggest hitter he has faced.
“It’s not a power that I’ve never seen before. He has power though but it’s not extraordinary power.
“I’ve been in with guys where it’s like what the f***k is this guy on crack or something, they hit so hard it’s like super strength. He didn’t have that. He was strong though, he had power, but it’s not where I got hit and you think I ain’t getting hit again, that type of power, but he ain’t have that type of power. But he has power.”
Benn is now four weeks away from a showdown with long-time rival Eubank, who is a naturally much bigger man. The fight takes place up at middleweight, so whether or not Benn can carry the power he does have up through the divisions has been open to much speculation in recent weeks. He looks to answer those questions emphatically on the night to become just the second man to stop Eubank.
