Conor Benn has made it clear what he wants to happen next after his loss to Chris Eubank Jr.
Nearly three years on from when the two men were originally set to meet, their fight finally took place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, and many fans will feel it was worth the wait.
It was a back and forth battle over 12 hard-fought rounds, with the final round arguably one of the best of the year after both men gave everything they got going in search for the stoppage.
In the end it was Eubank Jr that was victorious though, claiming the unanimous decision win after the judges scored it 116-112 in his favour.
Speaking in his post-fight interview, Benn has now revealed what he plans to do next, admitting that while he does want a rematch, he may also choose to drop back down to welterweight.
“14 months out the ring played a factor. Inactivity, apart from that I felt like it was a close fight, I’m not going to say I think I won it, I’ll watch it back. I thought it was close. I maybe stayed on the ropes too long. I enjoyed it.
We always knew Chris was a good fighter. All the fighting talk is fighting talk. He’s a good fighter. I believe I can fight at 160. I’d love to avenge that loss, but if we don’t do the rematch, I want to go to welterweight and win that WBC title, Barrios or Eubank rematch. Whatever happens next.”
Mario Barrios is the current WBC welterweight champion, and has been linked to a fight against Benn for a while. Benn was stepping up to middleweight for the clash, and Eubank has revealed exactly what he made of his rival’s power.
