Conor Benn is plotting his next moves carefully, but has been quite clear about one fighter he wants to avoid.
Benn is now 29-years-old and likely in the prime of his life. He has had 25 fights and plenty of drama along the course of his career.
Some of it was inside the ring, such as an early life and death bout with Cedrick Peynaud, which some think he was lucky to win, and much of it was outside the ring, including a failed drug test that kept him out of the sport for almost two years.
He has been defined by his generational rivalry with Chris Eubank Jr since coming back. The first time they fought up at 160 lbs, he lost a wide points decision after moving up in weight to take on the more experienced fighter, but in the rematch last November, it was he who controlled the fight and got his own unanimous points decision.
Speaking to iFL TV, Benn was asked if he wanted a trilogy fight and decider with Eubank at 168lbs, which is a rumour that has allegedly been going around, but he gave a short response.
“No, not at all. The beating was that bad the first time round, he wouldn’t want it a third time round. I’m not interested, I want to go and win a world title.”
Benn has been vocal in pursuit of his first belt. He has his eyes set either on Rolly Romero, who became WBA champion after beating Ryan Garcia last year, or the winner of the WBC fight between Mario Barrios and Garcia, which takes place in February.
