Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr have long chased a fight with one another but now it seems Benn may be looking elsewhere for his next opponent.
These two have a history that goes back to October 2022 – born from a rivalry between their fathers – when they were first set to fight before it was revealed Benn has failed a drugs test and the entire card was pulled.
In the two years since then, he has fought just twice, both out in the US and both points wins against lower level opponents Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson.
He has also been fighting to get a licence to compete in the UK and recently announced that he was now clear to fight, though there may still be an appeal from the British Boxing Board of Control and the UK Anti-Doping Agency,
Eubank meanwhile has had three fights – two with Liam Smith which saw him take his first-ever knockout loss and then win by knockout in the rematch, and more recently a stoppage win over Kamil Szeremeta.
Despite the pair facing off in the ring afterwards, Benn has now revealed to DAZN that he is chasing belts in the welterweight division rather than the big-money Eubank bout.
“For me personally, I want the world title. The WBC world title. That’s the winner of Mario Barrios and Abel Ramos. That’s the fight I really want.
“If Jaron Ennis wants to fight, I’m number two he’s number one. We can get that on. I was in Philly to watch him. He’s a great fighter, he’s one of the best to do it. You want to challenge yourself against the best.
“That’s what we’re in this game to do, to claim that number one spot. I’ve got to make up for lost time. Barrios, Ennis, any of them who’s got the belts, I want it.”
