Joe Cordina will share the ring with the youngest world champion in boxing later this year.

Welshman Cordina is now 34-years-old and into the final chapter of his career. He is a renowned technician with great timing who represented Great Britain at the 2016 Rio Olympics and turned pro just a year later.

He quickly rose through the ranks with good early wins that showed off his sharp counterpunching style and, in 2022, won the IBF super-featherweight world title with a standout stoppage victory over Kenichi Ogawa.

That win marked him as one of Britain’s top fighters, but he was later stripped due to injury and had to win back the belt in 2023 by defeating Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in a hard-fought battle that showed his grit.

Since then, Cordina has lost to Anthony Cacace in 2024 in what was an upset KO defeat, but secured two rebuild wins over Jaret Gonzalez Quiroz then Gabriel Flores Jr. back in December to win the WBO international lightweight title.

Having previously been linked to the likes of Shakur Stevenson, he will now head out to the United States and Cleveland’s Rocket Arena on July 4 to take on Abdullah Mason for the WBO strap, according to The Ring Magazine.

Mason won the title back in November with a fine showing against Sam Noakes in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The southpaw is just 22 years old and ranked at number five in the division but has already been tipped for stardom, so is sure to prove a tough test for Cordina at this stage of his career.
