Miguel Cotto Names Who Was Better Between Mayweather And Pacquiao After Losing To Both: “No Doubt”

Miguel Cotto proved himself to be one of the greatest fighters of the 21st century throughout his outstanding professional career.

The Puerto Rican great fought on just shy of 50 occasions during his tenure, which spanned between the years of 2001 and 2017. He captured world titles in four weight classes, becoming the first fighter in his country’s history to achieve this feat.

He racked up a number of career defining victories along the way, defeating the likes of Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley, Zab Judah and Sergio Martinez amongst others.

It wasn’t entirely straightforward for Cotto however, after he suffered a handful of defeats throughout his career, including losses to the legendary Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, who are often credited with being two of the greatest fighters of all time.

In an interview with BoxingJab TV, Cotto made no mistake in naming Mayweather as his best ever opponent.

“The best one? I think that Floyd without a doubt, Floyd Mayweather was the best one.”

Mayweather defeated Cotto when they clashed in May 2012, capturing the Puerto Rican’s WBA world light-middleweight title in the process. ‘Money’ went on to unify the WBA and WBC titles at 154lbs against Canelo Alvarez one year later, handing the Mexican great the first defeat of his career.

Cotto would continue fighting until 2017, suffering defeat in the 47th and final bout of his career against Sadam Ali before announcing his official retirement from the sport shortly after.
