Miguel Cotto has revealed the greatest fighter that he crossed paths with during his glittering professional career.

The Puerto Rican great is widely considered to be one of the best fighters of his generation, winning multiple world titles across four weight divisions during his tenure.

Whilst he suffered a handful of defeats along the way, Cotto produced a number of legacy-defining victories over the likes of Sergio Martinez, Shane Mosley and Antonio Margarito to name a few.

Cotto announced his retirement from the sport back in 2017, shortly after he was dethroned of his WBO world light-middleweight title against Brooklyn’s Sadam Ali in what was the sixth loss of his career.

In a feature with The Ring Magazine, Cotto didn’t hesitate to reveal former pound-for-pound superstar Floyd Mayweather as the best fighter that he ever shared a ring with.

“The best one? I think that Floyd without a doubt, Floyd Mayweather was the best one.”

Mayweather was victorious when he met Cotto in May 2012, defeating the Puerto Rican by unanimous decision to win his WBA light middleweight title.

The Michigan-native remained unbeaten for the duration of his decorated career, capturing world titles in no less than five weight classes along the way.

He defeated a number of legendary fighters before announcing his retirement in 2017, including the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao.

The 48-year-old has left the door open for a return to the sport since he drew the curtain on his career however, with reports suggesting that he could be in line to face Filipino great Pacquiao once again in 2026.
