Miguel Cotto Didn’t Hesitate To Name The Best He Fought Between Canelo, Mayweather And Pacquiao

Miguel Cotto was a force in the sport of boxing and only lost to the very best, including Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez.

The four-weight world champion boasts wins over the likes of Zab Judah, Shane Mosley, Ricardo Torres and Antonio Margarito. On his day, Cotto would give any opponent a torrid time in the ring with an aggressive style and pressure.

After a first loss to Margarito, Cotto was then defeated by Pacquiao via stoppage in 2009, losing in his WBO Welterweight World Title in the process. He built back with three wins one division up, including avenging the Margarito loss, before meeting ‘Money’ Mayweather.

Mayweather would win a unanimous decision in a competitive bout to snatch the WBA Super-Welterweight title. Six months later, Cotto failed to bounce back when he lost over the distance to Austin Trout.

He again moved up in weight and won the WBC Middleweight belt before being matched up against Canelo, who at 25-years-old had also recently been beaten by Mayweather.

Asked by FightHype who was the best man he stepped through the ropes with, Cotto said Floyd by a distance.

“Best one? I think Floyd without a doubt. Floyd Mayweather was good. Yeah [over Pacquiao]. Different fighters.”

Mayweather of course holds wins over both Pacquiao and Alvarez, beating both on points. He retired with a perfect 50-0 record. He is largely considered the best of a generation.

Cotto compete twice more after the Canelo loss, beating Yoshihiro Kamegai for the WBO belt at 154 pounds before losing it in his final bout against Sadam Ali.
