Terence Crawford reached out to a fellow fighter in order to try and make amends for one of his teammates.
Crawford is currently preparing for a huge fight of his own, as he is set to make a move up to 168lbs to challenge undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez in September.
Ahead of that bout, Crawford was in Norfolk, Virginia for what should have been a world title fight involving his teammate Keyshawn Davis, who was set to defend his belt against Edwin De Los Santos.
At the weigh-in, Davis came in over 4lbs above the lightweight limit, meaning he was stripped of his WBO title on the scales. The two teams attempted to come to a compromise over the fight still going ahead, but one couldn’t be reached and the fight was cancelled.
The event went ahead with a new main event, and Keyshawn’s brother Kelvin Davis still took on Nahir Albright on the undercard, but suffered a majority decision defeat in their battle for the WBC USA Silver super-lightweight title.
Keyshawn’s weekend then went from bad to worse, as he was involved in a backstage brawl with Albright after the fight, which has been heavily criticised by many top boxing figures.
Albright has now commented on the matter himself, telling Fight Hub TV that Crawford apologised for his teammate’s actions, along with his trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ MacIntyre.
“Bo Mac and Terence Crawford came in and was like ‘sorry.’ It meant a lot, I got a picture of us. I had to take in the moment.”
Crawford will be hoping there is less drama involved when he shares the ring with fellow pound-for-pound star Canelo later this year.
