Terence Crawford is still planning an ambitious move to super-middleweight to face Canelo Alvarez.
‘Bud’ began his career at 135lbs and is now competing at 154lbs, but still wants to move to 168lbs for the huge showdown against Canelo.
One concern that fans have had is whether Crawford would be able to carry his power up to super-middleweight, especially having only been able to defeat Madrimov on points in his last fight.
One man has eased those concerns though, after unbeaten super-middleweight contender Steven Nelson claimed that ‘Bud’ has hit him harder than anyone.
Nelson is 20-0 and has sparred heavyweights during his career, and he told Fighthype that Canelo should be wary of Crawford’s power.
“In sparring or in a fight, Bud cracked me hardest than anybody.”
Nelson then explained what it is about Crawford’s power that makes the difference.
“It’s not about how much muscle you’ve got. Bud knows how to punch and how to hit you in certain spots with certain timing, it hurts. He’ll lure you to sleep. Anybody I ever sparred or fought, Bud hit me hardest. It’s not about size, it’s about how you punch and when you punch.”
A fighter who certainly knows about Crawford’s power is Errol Spence Jr, after he suffered a ninth round stoppage loss to his rival in July 2023, and he has predicted how a potential fight between ‘Bud’ and Canelo would go.
