Terence Crawford has been offered an opportunity to write his name into the boxing history books once again, just weeks after his historic victory over Canelo Alvarez.
The 37-year-old from Omaha put on arguably the most impressive performance of his professional career to date against Mexican icon Canelo to capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship in Las Vegas on September 13.
The three judges at ringside scored the bout 115-113, 115-113, and 116-112 all in favour of the American superstar, who became the first male fighter in the history of the sport to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes, having previously accomplished this at super-lightweight and welterweight.
As speculation grows about what could be next for ‘Bud’, an unbeaten hard-hitting world champion at 160lbs appears to have shown an interest in facing the pound-for-pound great next.
Speaking on social media, unified WBO and IBF middleweight belt holder Janibek Alimkhanuly, who his team regard as the ‘most avoided’ champion, admitted that he would ‘gladly’ share the ring with Crawford, should the opportunity present itself to the undefeated Kazakh star.
“If Crawford agreed to fight me, I would gladly face him. And our fight would be the kind of match every fan would watch with excitement, not wanting to miss a single second.”
Janibek remains unbeaten in 17 bouts since making his professional debut back in 2016, stopping 12 of his opponents inside the scheduled distance.
He made his most recent ring appearance earlier this year when he stopped Anauel Ngamissengue in the fifth round of their clash at the Barys Arena in Astana to make the first successful defence of his unified middleweight titles,.
Janibek isn’t the only middleweight to declare their interest in a bout with Crawford, with a 160lb fighter who shares the same trainer as ‘Bud’ also doing so.
