Pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford has been offered an opportunity to face a ‘giant’ world champion in his next outing.

The 37-year-old from Omaha extended his unbeaten professional record to 42-0 earlier this month when he defeated Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez to capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship at a sold-out Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

In what has been regarded as the best performance of his career to date, Crawford got the nod on all three of the judges scorecards to become the first male fighter in the history of the sport to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes.

As speculation begins to grow about what could be next for ‘Bud’, reigning WBC light-middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora, who stands at 6 foot 5 and a half inches tall, has welcomed a clash with his countryman.

Speaking to Fight Hype, Fundora initially shared his thoughts on the historic clash between Crawford and Canelo, where he actually claims he was backing the Mexican star to get the job done.

“I was actually going for Canelo because of the size of course, but there was never a doubt in my mind that Crawford couldn’t win but he did, he did his thing.

“[He’s a] smart southpaw and had his foot out the whole time, laying his left hand like no problem. He’s pound-for-pound for a reason, hats off to Canelo, Canelo did his thing, Canelo is Canelo, you can never take it [away from him].”

Fundora was then asked if he believes ‘Bud’ will make the move back down to 154lbs, as he admits he would ‘welcome him’ back to the division.

“I don’t know. From what I saw I think he’s going back to 160 but we welcome him, why not.”

Fundora is set to make his return to the ring next month as he gears to defend his WBC world title against former unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on October 25.
