Terence Crawford is less than two months away from his monumental clash with Canelo Alvarez.
The unbeaten 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska is set to challenge the Mexican great for the undisputed super-middleweight championship on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Crawford will make his first appearance at 168lbs when he faces Canelo, having spent the majority of his career campaigning at welterweight before he made a brief jump up to super-welterweight last August to dethrone former WBA champion Israil Madrimov.
As he gears up for what could be the toughest test of his career, Crawford has spoken out and name a trio of fighters that he believes are better than Canelo in a shock claim.
In a feature with The Ring Magazine, ‘Bud’ Crawford didn’t hesitate to reveal the three fighters that he claims are greater than his future rival Canelo.
“[Oscar De La Hoya] better than Canelo … [Dmitry Bivol] better than Canelo … [Floyd Mayweather Jr] better than Canelo.”
Canelo has actually faced two out of the three fighters that Crawford mentioned, suffering the only defeats of his professional career to Mayweather and Bivol respectively.
The Mexican icon was beaten by Mayweather back in 2013, surrendering his WBC light-middleweight title to the retired pound-for-pound star when they clashed in Las Vegas.
Nine years on from his maiden career defeat, Canelo was beaten via unanimous decision by Bivol in May of 2022, falling short in his attempt at dethroning the Russian superstar and becoming the WBA light-heavyweight champion.
