Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis are two of the biggest names in boxing right now.
Crawford is the reigning WBA super-welterweight champion, winning the belt against Israil Madrimov back in August to become a four-weight world champion.
After first lifting world honours at lightweight, he was undisputed at both super-lightweight and welterweight, with his main triumph at 147lbs coming after a memorable stoppage victory over long-term rival Errol Spence Jr.
Davis has also reigned in multiple weight classes, and is now the current WBA lightweight champion, having most recently defended his belt with a knockout win over Frank Martin in June.
His huge power has seen 28 of his 30 wins come inside the distance, having stopped the likes of Ryan Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz and Rolly Romero in his career.
A fantasy match-up between Crawford and ‘Tank’ has been discussed by fans for a number of years, and Davis has even said himself in the past that he would be willing to step up in weight to face ‘Bud.’
Crawford has had his say on the potential showdown, as he needed just two words to sum up the chances of Davis whilst talking to The Breakfast Club.
“There’s levels.”
Crawford then explained that while he doesn’t begrudge Davis for backing himself, it wouldn’t end the way ‘Tank’ would want.
“He’s just talking. He’s got the confidence in himself that he believes he could do that because he’s been knocking all these fighters out. No knock to Tank but if he thinks he’s going to knock me out he’s got another thing coming.”
With Crawford now competing at 154lbs, a fight with Davis seems unlikely, with another world champion claiming he will be fighting ‘Bud’ in 2025.
