Terence Crawford was a vocal critic of the contest between boxing icon Mike Tyson and former YouTuber Jake Paul.
The eight round fight topped the bill in Texas on an event put together by Paul’s promotional company, MVP. It was streamed live on Netflix and broke plenty of viewership records.
Despite the hype and financial success, the main event was underwhelming, with Tyson looking a shadow of his former ferocious self and the inexperience Paul cruising to a unanimous decision victory.
Speaking to the media this weekend, Crawford at first dismissed the contest entirely.
“Man, I don’t even want to talk about it.”
When pushed further, four words stand out from ‘Bud’s response as to what Tyson should do next – that is stop ‘before he gets hurt.’
“I just think he’s past his prime. He’s too old. He needs to let it go. He can make money from other things in life. I just think, before he gets hurt, he needs to just chill out. Enjoy life.”
There was a very real worry in the boxing world pre-fight about the dangers to 58-year-old Tyson. Thankfully, he left the ring unscathed, though did later reveal that the initial postponement of the fight from July to November was much more serious than initially reported.
As for Paul, he forges ahead as one of the most talked about men in the sport.
