Canelo Alvarez soon returns to the ring to take on Christian Mbilli after more than a year out since his last fight.
That contest was back in September 2025 against Terence Crawford, who was already a two-weight undisputed champion but was moving up to super middleweight for the first tie.
That didn’t seem to impact Crawford, who soon settled into his usual routine of boxing sharp and smart across the 12 rounds, eventually securing a unanimous decision victory that made him only the second male boxer in history to become a three-weight undisputed world champion.
It was only the third loss of Canelo’s Career after the Mexican has also been beaten by Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol, and now the 36-year-old veteran of 68 fights is back in the ring again on October 31st when he challenges Mbili for the WBC title.
Speaking to DAZN Boxing, Crawford was asked what advice he would give Mbili going into the fight.
“I can’t because style make fights. His style is tailor-made for ‘Canelo’. He can’t do nothing but press ‘Canelo’. I don’t see him beating ‘Canelo’ in a boxing match. His best success will be letting his hands go, rough him up and make it a dog fight.”
Mbilli was elevated to WBC champion after defending his interim super middleweight title with a draw against Lester MartÃnez back in September last year. He has won 29 of his 30 fights, but has not fought anyone near the level of Canelo, so as Crawford suggests, he faces a tough night.
