Terence Crawford appears to have been offered a route to becoming an undisputed champion in a fourth weight division.
The 38-year-old from Omaha is currently enjoying some well deserved time away from the sport after he extended his unbeaten professional record to 42-0 with a victory over Canelo Alvarez.
Crawford defeated the Mexican superstar via unanimous decision at a sold-out Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 13, becoming the undisputed super-middleweight champion in the process.
It was the third time that ‘Bud’ has achieved undisputed status, having already achieved it at super-lightweight and welterweight earlier in his career.
As he prepares to consider what could be his next move, Crawford looks to have been offered an opportunity to become an undisputed world champion in a fourth weight class in what would be a record-breaking achievement.
Speaking on social media recently, unified WBO and IBF middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly offered Crawford the chance to become the undisputed middleweight champion in the near future, although this would be dependent on the Kazakh star achieving this feat himself first.
“He doesn’t need to fight Adames. I’ll beat both Lara and Adames, take all four belts, and then he can take his time and get ready to fight me.”
Janibek is unbeaten in his professional career, holding a record of 17-0 with 12 knockouts. He won the WBO middleweight title in November 2022, before adding the IBF belt just under a year later.
The Kazakh could actually move a step closer to becoming the undisputed champion at 160lbs in December when he faces WBA world middleweight champion Erislandy Lara in a three-belt unification showdown in San Antonio, Texas.
