Terence Crawford is arguably the greatest fighter of his generation.
The 37-year-old switch hitter from Omaha, Nebraska is over 40 fights into what has been an outstanding professional career, which has saw him win world titles in four weight divisions as well as the undisputed championship at super-lightweight and welterweight.
‘Bud’ is now preparing for what has been described as a ‘mega-fight’ against fellow pound-for-pound great Canelo Alvarez later this year, as he bids to become the first three-weight undisputed champion in male boxing history.
Despite being undoubtedly one of the greatest fighters of the last two decades, Crawford has spoken out and had his say on who he believes are the top three current pound-for-pound boxers on the planet.
Speaking to The Ring Magazine, ‘Bud’ expressed his disbelief at being ranked at number three on the publication’s pound-for-pound list, but gave his plaudits to Oleksandr Usyk who he ranks above him. He does, however, put Japanese star Naoya Inoue below him.
“The Ring number three? How y’all rating me number three? Who rating me at number three? I gotta go talk to them. [Oleksandr] Usyk number one, he better be number one. Over Usyk? I’m not over Usyk, but I’m over Inoue.”
Usyk and Inoue are joined by Crawford in being two of the three fighters in boxing history to have won the undisputed championship in two weight classes.
Usyk made history by becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four belt era when he defeated Tyson Fury last year. After vacating the IBF belt, he has a chance to become two-time undisputed in July when he rematches Daniel Dubois.
Inoue has achieved undisputed status at both bantamweight and super-bantamweight during his tenure, with the most recent defence of his 122lb crown coming against Ramon Cardenas on May 4.
