The much anticipated ‘super-fight’ between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford is just over three weeks away.
After campaigning at welterweight for almost the entirety of his accomplished professional career, Crawford will make the move up to super-middleweight for the first time when he faces the Mexican icon.
Canelo made his debut at 168lbs back in 2018 and since then has gone on to reign as the undisputed world championship on two occasions, racking up victories over the likes of Jaime Munguia, Callum Smith and Gennady Golovkin amongst many others.
One fighter that is able to give an insight into the intriguing showdown between Canelo and Crawford is Fernando Vargas Jr, who has spent some time sparring ‘Bud’ recently.
Speaking to Fight Hype, Vargas admitted that whilst he respects Crawford, he believes Canelo will be ‘too much’ and stop him during the later stages of the fight.
“I have a lot of respect for Crawford and what he’s done. I just feel that there’s respective weight classes for a reason, you saw Canelo when he moved up to 175 when he fought Bivol, you saw what happened there, and I just feel Crawford is one of the best fighters ever and he could fight in any generation in his respective weight class.
“I feel Canelo is gonna be too much, I feel in the early rounds he could catch him with shots, you know maybe Canelo will get frustrated by picking him up the way Canelo always gets frustrated, but I just feel Canelo will find him out … I believe he could stop him or if not get him out of there.”
There have been concerns raised about the significant weight and size advantage that could play a factor on fight night, but many fans and analysts have backed ‘Bud’ to be victorious on the night to cement himself as one of, if not the greatest fighter of his generation.
