Terence Crawford’s Team React To Potential Fight Against David Benavidez At Super Middleweight

Terence Crawford wrote his name into the boxing history books yet when he defeated Mexican great Canelo Alvarez in impressive fashion.

The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska got the nod on all three of the judges scorecards as he captured the undisputed super-middleweight championship from the grasp of Canelo at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

In what is being considered to be the best performance of his professional career, ‘Bud’ Crawford became the first fighter in the sport’s history to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes, having already achieved this at super-lightweight and welterweight respectively.

After the victory, Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh had hinted that the 37-year-old could potentially go on to face two-time super-middleweight champion David Benavidez, if the WBC light-heavyweight champion could still make 168lbs.

Speaking to Fight Hype, Crawford’s trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre addressed this speculation, before also confirming that ‘Bud’ does not intend to vacate any of his super-middleweight world titles.

“No man, we ain’t doing that [Benavidez] fight … No we ain’t gonna vacate the belts, you know we just gonna sit where we need to sit for a minute and then just like I said get back in the gym and do our thing.”

Another option for Crawford could be a potential move down to middleweight, a division that he is yet to campaign at after he made the jump from super-welterweight up to super-middleweight ahead of his clash with Canelo.
