Terence Crawford and Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez are set to clash in a mega-fight later this year.

‘Bud’ Crawford been making serious noise about a showdown against the Mexican icon ever since he dethroned WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov last August, becoming a four-division world champion in the process, though he first mentioned Canelo’s name after his undisputed welterweight win against Errol Spence Jr.

Canelo has been a major player at 168lbs since becoming the undisputed champion in 2021. He currently holds the unified WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles, having been stripped of his IBF title last summer.

Crawford will be moving up two weight classes to challenge the Mexican star, which would be the heaviest the 37-year-old has ever been during his glittering career.

It was initially reported that a rehydration clause may be in place, something Canelo has used in the past. That has now been ruled out, as top trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre told Boxing Social his fighter wants to show the world he’s ‘the best’.

“Let’s go man, that’s what Crawford wants, he wants to show the world that he’s the best so why put stipulations in there, when you know that you can be the best, so let’s go test ourselves.”

Although an official announcement is yet to be made, ‘Bud’ and Canelo are reportedly lined up to fight this September, with the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas emerging as the preferred venue for all parties.

A member of Crawford’s team has confirmed the fight as on, and the Ring Magazine recently reported that an agreement has been reached.
