Terence Crawford has given his view on the emerging news that Floyd Mayweather could be set to return to action to face Ryan Garcia in 2027.
Mayweather retired from professional boxing almost a decade ago in 2017 after he beat Conor McGregor to take his record to 50 fights and 50 wins.
Before that, he established himself as a multi-weight world champion and beat a who’s who of stars across his generation, including Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and many more.
He is now 49 years old, while Garcia is 28 and became world champion for the first time earlier this year when he defeated Mario Barrios to win the WBC welterweight title, before defending it with an emphatic second round knockout over Conor Benn in September.
In a new post on X, former three-weight undisputed champion Crawford expressed amusement at the idea of the fight happening at all and suggested it wouldn’t be an easy night if the pair did clash in the ring.
😂😂😂 @RyanGarcia i know you not fighting nobody old and outta they prime. Shouldn’t you be fighting all these young hungry in prime lions?
P.S Floyd gone beat yo ass if yall fight.😂😂”
Along with the clash against Mayweather, Garcia has also been linked to a unification fight with WBA welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez, though Lopez may instead be forced to defend his title against mandatory challenger Jack Catterall.
Mayweather, meanwhile, has a history of agreeing to all sorts of unlikely fights and currently has contracts in place for a Mike Tyson exhibition and a Manny Pacquiao rematch, and is being sued for breaching both.
