Rumours have recently emerged to suggest that Kell Brook may return to the ring after many years out to fight Chris Eubank Jr.
Sheffield’s Brook is a former welterweight champion who won his belt with a magnificent performance on away soil all the way back in 2014 when he beat the tough Shawn Porter out in the United States.
After that, he made some straightforward defences against Jo Jo Dan, Frankie Gavin and Kevin Bizier before taking a huge risk and moving up two weights to take on Gennady Golovkin for the unified middleweight world titles, which is a move he now regrets.
After losing by KO, he then returned to 147 to defend his belt against Errol Spence Jr but was stopped in round 11. In 2020, he took on Terence Crawford for the WBO belt but lost inside four rounds and then retired after knocking out his long-time rival Amir Khan in February 2022.
Speaking to Boxing News, Smith expressed interest in seeing 40-year-old Brook return to the ring to take on Eubank Jr.
“For the level they’re at, I think it’s a great fight. I probably think that Kell has more than what Eubank has in his. It’ll be a good fight, a very good fight.”
Eubank last fought in November last year when he lost a rematch with Conor Benn, though many believe he was weight-drained, having fought at a catchweight of 160lbs for the first time in 2025, having beaten Benn in their first fight six months previous.
Since losing the rematch, Eubanks has been taking time out with his newborn twins but has always said he will return, and a fight with Brook would likely generate some interest given the reputations of both men within the sport, though Eubank has also been linked with a fight with his old rival Billy Joe Saunders.
