Daniel Dubois is fighting tooth and nail to prove he has the grit and determination to be a great heavyweight champion.
Having come up short to both Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk previously, the young Brit scored two hard-fought victories recently to get himself the Interim IBF World Title.
He was then elevated to Full Champion when the belt was vacated by Usyk, and his maiden defence comes against Anthony Joshua on September 21 at Wembley Stadium.
It finds both men in good form – Joshua has knocked out three of his last four opponents after losing back-to-back contests with Usyk in 2021 and 2022, while Dubois has those stoppage wins over Jarrell Miller and Fillip Hrgovic.
Should Dubois come out on top, there are many contenders knocking at the door, one of which is Martin Bakole, who recently announced himself on the world stage with a stoppage of highly-rated prospect Jared Anderson.
However, Billy Nelson, the trainer of Bakole, has told Seconds Out that doesn’t think Dubois will ever face his man and, if he does, he will get stopped.
“If Daniel beats ‘AJ’, get him to come and fight Martin Bakole ’cause I guarantee they won’t. Frank [Warren] said yesterday they will take the fight with Martin Bakole. No they won’t. He won’t take the fight. And if he does, he’ll get what Anderson did but quicker. He’ll knock him out inside six rounds, just too good for him.”
