With just weeks to go before Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois come to blows, one man who knows Dubois well has given his breakdown of the fight.
Dubois has had a dramatic career already with plenty of ups and downs, before he is even 30. He has been world champion and defended his belt in style with a KO win over Anthony Joshua, but has also lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk and been accused of going missing when the going gets tough.
Meanwhile, Wardley is in a fine run that has seen him knock out his last two opponents, including former world champion Joseph Parker.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Dubois’ ex-trainer Shane McGuigan suggested he has more skills than people think but needs to stay calm in the ring in order to show that.
“He’s brilliant at boxing, he’s got a great jab, good feet, great balance. People can’t see what that guy can do in the gym, he can light it up. He’s got so much talent but I think a lot of the time the occasion has got to him and taken him away for staying disciplined.
“Like I said before, those experiences have shaped him. Fabio Wardley will be a great fight him but look at what he did to Parker, but Parker went in there and tried to knock him out. I don’t think that’s the plan.
“Fabio looks hurt, he’s looked hurt many times before. He’s like Nigel Benn in that he’s most dangerous when he’s on rocky legs, so you just go to stay disciplined and keep him on the stick.”
Wardley has often been behind on the cards and pulled out a victory late on, and Dubois carries plenty of power, which is why this is such an intriguing match-up between two men in their prime.
