Daniel Dubois Trainer Don Charles Makes ‘Not Ready’ Admission As Usyk Rematch Nears

Daniel Dubois and Oleksandr Usyk are just weeks away from their monumental rematch.

The heavyweight rivals are set to do battle for the undisputed championship on Saturday July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Their highly anticipated rematch comes almost two years on from their controversial first encounter which took place in Poland in the summer of 2023.

Usyk was dropped with what originally appeared to be a body shot during the fifth round of their bout in Wroclaw, however referee Luis Pabon quickly ruled it as a low blow and gave the Ukrainian ample time to recover.

The champion would go on to stop the hard-hitting Brit in the ninth round, handing Dubois the second defeat of his career to keep a hold of his unified WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight titles.

As Dubois prepares to fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship and potentially fulfil his lifelong dream, the Brit’s trainer Don Charles revealed in an interview with Queensberry that he believes his fighter was not actually ready for his showdown with Usyk in 2023.

“I can sit here and say we were mad thinking we were ready. I’m always very ambitious, Daniel’s very ambitious. It was an opportunity, we didn’t have to take it but we did.”

Dubois has found himself on a fine run of form since he was beaten by the Ukrainian great. The 27-year-old from London is unbeaten in his last three outings, with perhaps the best victory of his career coming against countryman Anthony Joshua last September, stopping the two-time unified heavyweight champion in the fifth round of their clash at Wembley.
