Daniel Dubois put himself front and centre when he entered the ring following Oleksandr Usyk‘s second win over Tyson Fury.
The other world champion in the division is Daniel Dubois, who was elevated to full IBF titleholder when Usyk vacated that belt to make this Fury rematch happen. The 27-year-old promptly entered the ring post-fight to call for a rematch with Usyk, who stopped him inside nine last year after surviving a controversial low blow. Fans said the timing was misjudged as Usyk was thanking his loved ones for their support in his victory.
He did however say ‘no problem’ to the fight offer, but whether or not the fight takes place is another matter. The Ukrainian has made it clear now that he will be taking a break from the sport following the two most impressive victories of his career. So, what of Fury?
Speaking to Seconds Out, Dubois was asked about his countryman’s future and suggested retirement.
“Fury’s had a great career, I think it’s time for him to call it a day now … I don’t know, man. He should retire in my opinion. He’s done everything. It’s my time now, I’m gonna be the next man.”
Though a trilogy with Usyk is off the table now that it’s 2-0, Fury has a potential huge night under the lights against Anthony Joshua, who Dubois recently defeated by knockout in the first defence of his world title. Though the match-up is past its best before date, it will still generate huge interest amongst fans.
