Daniel Dubois has given his unique insight into the upcoming fight between Joe Joyce and Filip Hrgovic.
‘DDD’ has fought both of these heavyweights and both fights had huge significance for very different reasons. He took on Joyce back in 2020 as his first real test after being hyped up by his promoter and putting together a string of early knockouts.
However, it was a tough night which saw Joyce land stiff jabs repeatedly on Dubois’s eye, eventually forcing him to take a knee and be counted out when he could no longer see out of it.
That led many to question his heart, but after some rebuild wins he truly showed he had the confidence required to come through tough fights by taking plenty of big shots from Hrgovic but staying strong and eventually getting the KO of his own.
That was in June 2024 and the win saw him elevated to full IBF world champion, a belt he has since defended with a knockout of Anthony Joshua back in September, though he pulled out of his most recently planned fight against Joseph Parker with a virus.
Speaking to Podlounge, the Brit was asked how a fight between the two plays out and is leaning towards Hrgovic to get his hand raissed.
“I think Hrgovic can win it, he’s got a good style, he’s had the time to rebuild so I’m looking forward to it. It’s interesting, is Joe going to come in and maul him? I’m looking forward to it to see what Hrgovic is like now. i heard and interview the other day where he said he’s ready and means business, so we’ll see.”
Since he fought Dubois, Joyce has beaten Joseph Parker but lost to Zhilei Zhang, twice, and Derek Chisora last time out, while Hrgovic has not been back in the ring since the fight with ‘DDD’ last summer. The two come together on April 5th in Manchester.
