Tyson Fury’s retirement from the sport of boxing has got everyone talking, including fellow British big man Daniel Dubois.
Fury delivered the news on social media earlier in the week. It’s not the first time he has announced he will no longer be entering the squared circle, however. He has done so on a number of occasions before and so far has always U-turned.
Many people in the sport are hoping he will do the same again in order to have one final epic contest against his long-time British rival Anthony Joshua.
Both men are former world champions who are coming off losses. It seems unlikely either will drop down the levels and rebuild in the traditional fashion and fight their way back to the top, especially when such a mouthwatering and lucrative contest is right there to be made.
Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Dubois was asked what he made of Fury’s retirement and believes fans shouldn’t ‘read too much’ into what Fury says and doubt’s it’s the last we’ve seen of him in the ring.
“Never read too much into what Tyson says. He might come back and fight someone, you never know.”
If the ‘The Gypsy King’ has fought his last fight Dubois says he’ll go down as a legend.
“I think he’s done enough in his career. He’s a legend really.”
‘DDD’ had previously said he would happily fight ‘The Gypsy King’ but now his attention has turned to chasing a rematch with Usyk.
The Ukrainian beat Dubois back in the summer of 2023, but Dubois has newfound confidence in his boxing ability after knocking out Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Joshua on his way to becoming the IBF world champion. As such, a rematch with Usyk is now one many would be interested in seeing.
