Daniel Dubois is one of the top dogs in the heavyweight division.
The 27-year-old has put together three of the best back-to-back wins anywhere in the sport in the last year or so. He first managed to stop the giant Jarrell Miller in the final few seconds of their fight last December, then he overcame some early pressure from Filip Hrgovic to secure another stoppage win before beating Anthony Joshua with a stunning knockout this September.
He is now the reigning IBF world champion with plenty of options and many people wanting their shot at his title.
Joshua’s team initially said he wanted a quick rematch but have now said niggling injuries may mean he won’t be ready to fight in February, which is when ‘DDD’ is next out.
As such Fabio Wardley has been named a possible opponent sometime down the line, although recently ruled out by promoter Frank Warren, and so has former WBO world champion Joseph Parker.
Parker is also on a fine run having beaten Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang in his last two.
Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, he was asked about the fight with Dubois.
“I have been very vocal about wanting to fight Daniel Dubois. He’s done exceptionally well with Don Charles and his dad and his team. He looked great with the Miller fight, the Hrgovic fight. He looked good against Joshua getting that devastating knockout. But there’s a difference with me and all those other fighters, I’m fresh, I’m hungry, I’ve been waiting since March for a big fight, let’s get it on and go now.”
He was then asked about the chances of it happening and said discussions are ongoing.
“They’re asking around different fighters and opponents and see which one fits. There are a few hurdles you have to jump through to make this fight happen but I feel it can happen and I want it to happen.”
News is expected soon as to the February bout.
