Dave Allen pulled no punches with his review of the rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn.
Many people were expecting a repeat of the first fight – an all-action affair with plenty of big shots, lots of aggression and a close contest.
Instead, Benn immediately established himself and dominated just about every round on his way to a unanimous points win that left many wondering how much Eubank has left after more than 20 years as a pro and now at 36 years of age.
In a video posted to X of Allen on Talksport, the popular heavyweight gave one of his typically frank and on-point reviews of the contest.
“Conor Benn, take nothing away from him, he got the job done, well done, fair play. I can’t take anything away from him, but he lost to a faded Eubank in April and then he beat a shot to bits one. He’s not 147 champion elect on the back off that.”
He as then asked if he thought Benn could win a world title.
“Maybe, but the champions they’re not A-level champions, they’re B level champions. Marios Barrios, Lewis Crocker, they’re very good fighters but they’re not great fighters. I’m still not sure they’ll beat them. I don’t think Conor Benn is a fantastic boxer. There’s no point me standing here saying it were great, because it weren’t. Eubank were terrible and Benn didn’t do anything amazing, he just beat the shell of an old man up.
“That wasn’t world class boxing – not even close. And they’re saying he’s 147 elect champion? Not even close. It was poor. Both of them weren’t great.”
Despite this, Benn has already stated that next he would like to pursue a world title, most likely against Mario Barrios, the WBC ruler.
