Dave Allen is intrigued by the upcoming Moses Itauma and Dillian Whyte.
The fight sees hotly-tipped young prospect Itauma make a huge step up to face a former world title challenger in Whyte, who has had 34 fights, and won 31 of them with his only losses against Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin, later avenging the Povetkin defeat.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel, fellow heavyweight Allen backed Itauma to win but not as early as most of his fights.
“My prediction is an Itauma stoppage. I don’t think it happens too early though. I don’t think it happens in one or two. I think it happens six, seven or eight. I think Dillian Whyte comes to survive. I think early on he will get behind the jab and move.
“Itauma, I think he’s really clever actually, I watch him, and you wouldn’t believe he was 20. He never boxed as a senior amateur, I would have thought he boxed without a headguard in that case. He’s very clever, he does so very clever things beyond his experience. He’s not very experienced really. I think Dillian will be looking to frustrate him.”
Allen then went on further to break down the fight.
“The only holes I’ve seen in Itauma is when he fought Espindola and Dovbyshchenko. He got frustrated when he didn’t have the success he wanted when Espindola and Dovbyshchenko made him miss. He’ll expect Dillian Whyte to do that really.
“I don’t think Itauma is going to punch straight through Whyte, I’d be very surprised. I think as time goes on, he’ll chip away at him and wear him down, and Dillian will have to have a go eventually and that’s when Itauma will land something. But I don’t think it will be early. Dillian Whyte is too smart for that. He’s cleverer than what people think. He’s super tough, Dillian Whyte.”
A win for either man gets them right in the mix for a world title, with Lawrence Okolie predicting that will be Itauama.
