Conor Benn soon fights Regis Prograis, and Dave Allen has shared his thoughts ahead of the battle.
Benn is one of the most high-profile fighters in the sport right now, but has not yet competed for, let alone won, a world title.
He has, however, had two much-publicised grudge matches with Chris Eubank Jr, with family roots that go back to the 1990s, making both contests all the more talked about.
He lost the first on points, though it was an entertaining, all-action affair, then ran away with the second with a unanimous points win of his own,
Speaking on talkSPORT Boxing, British heavyweight Allen was honest with his assessment of where Benn is at.
“I don’t know how good he is, because in my opinion, he’s the best-matched fighter in history. How he’s made millions of pounds I’ll never know. Well, we do, it’s his dad’s name and that, and I say fair play to him.
“He struggled with Peynaud; he’s never boxed for an area title, he’s never boxed for a regional title, he’s never boxed for a British title, Commonwealth or European. That’s how you rank people.”
He then assessed the fights he has won, including his biggest victory back in November.
“Eubank were dead at the weight the second time and he’s not as good as he used to.”
Benn fights former world champion Prograis on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s comeback in April, and if he were to win, he might finally be on the road to the world title he so craves against the likes of Ryan Garcia or Rolly Romero.
