Allen headed to Dublin to fight on the undercard of Kate Taylor’s final ever fight at Croke Park last weekend. After a few exchanges early on, the pair clinched, and Allen unwittingly landed a punch on the back of his opponent’s head, at which point Carty fell forward, through the ropes and onto the floor outside the ring, where he was unable to continue.
The referee ruled the fight a no contest, which left Allen unhappy, as he believed he should have been given the win,
Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Allen admitted he doesn’t want to run it back with Carty.
“Of course it was unfortunate what’s happened, but it’s happened. I’ve got a couple of fights left, and they won’t be against Thomas Carty, they won’t.
“I’m the kind of fella I do what I want to do, and If I don’t want to do something, I ain’t doing it, no matter what. There’ll be no rematch. I’m sure they’ll push for it and they’ll want it because it’s the biggest fight for him, and I like the guy, but I ain’t playing.
“I’ve got a couple of fights left, I’ll probably have one fight at the end of the year. I love the British title, that’s what I would like to end on, on victory or defeat. If we can get the British title fight next, or the one after, amazing, then I’m gone.”
Allen has been a great servant to British boxing and has often stepped up when asked and been in plenty of entertaining scraps, even when losing to the likes of David Price, Filip Hrgovic and Dillian Whyte.
If he is to compete for the British title before hanging up his gloves, he will have to take on Richard Riakporhe, who won the belt in April when he beat Jeamie Tshikeva by TKO.
