Dave Allen has sparred many of the top heavyweights, including Daniel Dubois.
‘DDD’ is one of the form men in the banner division right now. His recent run started with a fine victory over Jarrell Miller in the final few seconds of their ten-round fight last December. After that came another stoppage win over Fillip Hrgovic back in June.
The Brit was elevated to full IBF champion after the Hrgovic win and then defended the belt against Anthony Joshua in September. That ended in the fifth round – a career-best win and another knockout that has set up a third defence against Joseph Parker in February.
Former WBO World Champion Parker has also put in some fine performances of late by beating Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang, both on points, in his last two outings.
British heavyweight Allen has sparred with Dubois and spoke to iFL TV about the fight, initially predicting a Parker but by no means counting out the young champion.
“I can see Parker beating him on points. Dubois is getting bigger and stronger all the time. Dubois is a different kettle of fish now to years ago. I used to look at Dubois and go he’s a bit chinny, he’s got some quit in him, but he’s not any more, he’s walked through Miller, he’s walked through Hrgovic, he’s walked through Joshua.”
Allen returns to action this weekend when he takes on ‘The Romford Bull’ aka fellow British contender Johnny Fisher on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s rematch versus Usyk.
