David Benavidez has finally rated Terence Crawford’s chances of beating Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in their upcoming mega-fight.

The 28-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona has been linked with a potential showdown with the unified super middleweight champion since 2023, although a fight is yet to be materialised for unknown reasons. Benavidez was mandatory challenger to Canelo’s WBC title two years ago, but opted for a move to light heavyweight following the frustration of not being able to agree a deal with the Mexican icon.

Canelo now appears to be gearing up to face ‘Bud’ Crawford in an intriguing showdown later this year, as he welcomes the challenge of the 37-year-old four-weight world champion whose most recent triumph came last August when he defeated WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov, albeit in a slightly underwhelming performance.

Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Benavidez shared his thoughts on the fight between Canelo and Crawford, as he seems to favour ‘Bud’ over the Mexican superstar.

“It’s a good fight for both of them, I think it’s more important for Crawford than anybody. I think if anybody can beat Canelo I think Crawford could.”

‘The Monster’ then rated Crawford’s chances of beating Canelo out of 10.

“I think I’d give him like a 7 out of 10. Crawford is good and I think that it’s been known he’s gonna fight Canelo for a long, long time and Crawford likes to pick up the weight so I’m sure he’s been working on the weights for a long, long time.”

It is undoubtedly the biggest challenge of the 37-year-old’s accomplished career, as he bids to write even more history for himself. He has already capture the undisputed championship at both super lightweight and welterweight, but a victory over Canelo would undeniably be the biggest of his tenure.
