David Benavidez will be tuning into the rematch between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. this week after enjoying their first 12-round war earlier in the year.

The first clash was a thriller in which both men put it all on the line. It was Eubank as the naturally bigger man who imposed himself more and scored a points win at the final bell, though he spent days in hospital recovering.

Speaking to Froch on Fighting, two-weight world champion Benavidez said he sees a different result in the second fight.

“Man, the first fight was so great. To be honest with you for the first fight I was expecting Eubank to go in there and wash Conor Benn. But Conor Benn has shown he is a strong fighter. That was his first fight at 160. I had Eubank winning but Benn has proved himself to be strong at that weight class.

“I don’t know, I’ve got Conor Benn wining the second fight. I think he knows what he needs to do to win. Even if he doesn’t win, we can expect a war. Those guys are going to go in there and give a hell of fight for the fans,

“[Benn] hurt him a lot in that fight. It might have been the weight cut … He probably had trouble making the weight, he was getting hurt a lot but he found the energy to finish that fight and also caught Conor and hurt him in the last round too.”

Eubank will again have to stick to a rehydration clause which states he must not add more than 10lbs between the weigh in and the morning of the fight. Benn, though he will be more suited to the weight this second time around, is adamant he will drop back down to 147lbs for his next contest.
