David Benavidez Names The One Man Besides Canelo That He’ll Move Back Down To 168 For

David Benavidez now competes at light-heavyweight but has named one fighter outside of Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez that would tempt him to move back down.

Benavidez is often spoken of as the man that could beat Canelo in his dominant division and it is fair to say he has been keen on making that fight happen.

However, the 168lb unified champion seems to think the timing is not right at the moment and has instead demanded $200m to make the fight happen. Last time out Canelo took what transpired to be a straight forward defence against Edgar Berlanga rather than fighting ‘The Monster’.

Benavidez is a former two-time world super middleweight champion and the current WBC light-heavyweight interim champion.

Last time out, he made his 175lb debut, beating Oleksandr Gvozdyk on points so he now has options on further fights in that division, not least against the winner of the blockbuster undisputed clash between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol on October 12.

Speaking to Mr Organik he did name one man, other than Canelo, that would entice him to come back down to 168. Pound for pound star Terence Crawford stopped his brother José Benavidez Jr back in 2018 when defending his WBO welterweight title and the 27-year-old would love to get ‘revenge’ for that loss.

“I would love to get [revenge], but I just don’t think he would come up.

I would love to fight [Terence] Crawford, or even spar Crawford.”

Crawford has made it clear that he is willing to move up to 168lbs, but only for a clash against Canelo, with suggestions he could hang up the gloves if he can’t land the fight.
