David Benavidez has given his take on Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul.
Tyson and Paul battled it out on Friday at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in an event that was broadcast live on Netflix, with the Youtuber-turned-boxer claiming a comfortable unanimous decision win after eight two-minute rounds.
‘Iron Mike’ found it tough to compete throughout the bout, as the 58-year-old was taking part in his first professional contest since 2005.
One man who has now commented on Tyson’s performance is Benavidez, the undefeated current WBC interim light-heavyweight champion.
Tyson has been a long-time admirer of Benavidez, revealing that he would back him to defeat pound-for-pound star Canelo Alvarez, along with any other current active boxer.
Whilst speaking to Fight Hub TV, Benavidez needed just four words to sum up the performance of ‘Iron Mike.’
“He needs to retire.”
Benavidez then explained why he doesn’t want to see the boxing legend back in the ring.
“It was a good fight and a good turnout but I don’t want to see Mike Tyson fight no more. Hopefully he hangs it up. It was a good show and Mike Tyson went in there and made a good paycheque and he deserves that. I’m just happy that he didn’t get hurt in there.
Mike Tyson is Mike Tyson but a 60-year-old Mike Tyson is a different Mike Tyson”
One man that called out ‘Iron Mike’ following his showdown with Paul was boxing legend Evander Holyfield, who asked for a trilogy contest with his former rival following their two memorable fights in the 1990, but Holyfield’s request has already been denied.
