Gervonta Davis is currently awaiting clarity on his future.
Davis was set to make the latest defence of his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach in December, but the bout has been postponed with no new date yet announced.
It’s a fight that has received some criticism from fans who wanted to see ‘Tank’ take on a bigger name, with Roach stepping up from super-featherweight for the contest.
A unification showdown with WBC champion Shakur Stevenson was rumoured at one point, but the bout didn’t come to fruition.
One man who shares that criticism of Roach as an opponent is two-weight world champion and Hall of Famer Tim Bradley, who told Fighthype that he sees ‘Tank’ as a prospect due to his failure to face the elite in the division.
“Before Shakur signed for [Joe] Cordina, there was a perfect opportunity to negotiate with Shakur. Tell me the last top A dog where ‘Tank’ didn’t suck them down on weight to have an advantage like he did with [Ryan] Garcia. Frank Martin is green. It’s like to me Tank is a 30-year-old prospect.
“Fight the best. Fight Shakur. People say he tried to fight Lomachenko. You could have had that five six years ago but you were in PBC protective custody. They’ve built a hell of a product, but what are you scared of. Put this dude in there with a lion.”
Davis has spoken himself about a fight with Stevenson, claiming that the WBC champion needs to beat one man to earn the right to face him.
