Gervonta Davis is set to face a shock opponent when he returns to the ring later this year.

‘Tank’ has had a superb career to date, becoming a three-weight world champion and earning knockout victories over the likes of Ryan Garcia, Rolly Romero, Mario Barrios, Frank Martin and Leo Santa Cruz.

Davis was last in action in March, when he was held to a controversial majority decision draw in a WBA lightweight title defence against Lamont Roach.

It was expected that the pair would take part in an immediate rematch, but it is now clear to see why that hasn’t come to fruition after it has been reported that he will face instead Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

It will be an exhibition contest scheduled to take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia on November 15, and will be broadcast live on Netflix.

While not every boxing fan may like it, Paul has become one of the biggest names in the sport in recent years, thanks mainly to fights against former MMA stars or faded legends of the past.

Over the past 12 months he defeated heavyweight icon Mike Tyson who was 58-years-old at the time, and most recently overcame former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a cruiserweight bout in June.

The bout between Davis and Paul has been rumoured for a number of months, but has still come as a huge surprise, with ‘Tank’ having not competed above 140lbs in his entire career, while ‘The Problem Child’ weighed 227lbs for his bout with Tyson last November.

Paul has called out a number of elite fighters in recent months, ranging from Davis all the way up to Anthony Joshua, but remarkably he is now scheduled to meet a man that is 8 inches shorter than him, albeit one of the biggest punchers in the sport.
