The trainer of Gervonta Davis has expressed his one concern ahead of his fighter’s upcoming showdown with Jake Paul.

It was revealed last week that the reigning WBA lightweight champion ‘Tank’ would go head-to-head with Youtuber-turned-boxer Paul on Friday November 14 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

The announcement came as a shock to the boxing world, as it was expected that Davis would have a rematch with Lamont Roach following their first bout in March which ended in a majority decision draw, with many fans even believing Roach should have got the win.

Instead for ‘Tank’ it is a clash with Paul next, who himself was in discussions for a showdown with two-time unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, but ‘The Problem Child’ has instead opted to face a man eight inches shorter and over 60lbs lighter than him.

Davis’ trainer Calvin Ford has now had his say on the clash, as speaking to Fight Hype, he claims the only concern he has for his fighter is his ‘safety’.

“Jake Paul and Tank been going at it for years and I gotta worry about his safety you know … They was talking about this one. Jake and Tank been going back and forth for so long and people don’t understand that you know.

“One thing I can say about Jake, he’s good at what he do and he’s been doing this that’s why where he’s at … This is a risky fight, you know what I’m saying?

“Anything can happen because I don’t know all these logistics besides gloves, what weight class, it’s a lot of stuff I don’t know about yet, but my main thing is to keep him safe.”

Whilst Davis carries thunderous punching power which has led to him producing a number of highlight reel knockouts during his career, stepping up to face Paul could be a step too far for the unbeaten American superstar.
