Gervonta Davis has predicted the upcoming welterweight battle between Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero.
Garcia makes his long-awaited return to the ring when he faces Romero at Times Square in New York on May 2, after serving a one-year suspension from the sport following a failed doping test that was taken in the lead-up to his bout against Devin Haney last year.
Davis has fought both Garcia and Romero during his exceptional professional career, picking up impressive knockout victories against them.
He stopped Romero in the sixth round of their bout back in May 2022, and went on to repeat this against Garcia just one year later although ‘Tank’ closed the show in the seventh round of their bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In an interview with FightHype, Davis was asked whether he believes ‘Rolly’ can pull off a huge upset against Garcia, who is still being tipped for greatness despite facing controversy over the last 12 months. He said he hopes it happens, but clearly believes the odds are stacked against him.
“Can Rolly pull off the upset? I don’t wanna say something crazy but yeah hopefully bro, hopefully for the sake of Rolly he can pull it off, but it’s going to be a good fight.”
‘Tank’ was then asked if he believes the fight will be concluded with a knockout victory for either fighter.
“Yeah, for sure, somebody’s getting knocked out.”
The vacant WBA ‘Regular’ welterweight title is set to be at stake for Garcia and Romero in what is going to be a historic moment for boxing when they lock horns at the iconic Times Square in the heart of New York City, the first card in the history of the sport to be hosted at that location.
