Gervonta Davis has issued an update on whether he will draw the curtain on his career after he faces Jake Paul later this year.
The unbeaten 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland will face Paul on Friday November 14 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, with it currently unconfirmed whether it will be an exhibition or professional bout.
Davis is the current WBA lightweight champion and hasn’t fought above 140lbs in his career, while Paul weighed 227lbs for his heavyweight bout with Mike Tyson last November, with official details of the weight limit and fight rules for this upcoming clash set to be shared in the coming weeks.
‘Tank’ had originally been scheduled to rematch fellow countryman Lamont Roach Jr this month, after their controversial first encounter back in March ended in a majority decision draw, but these plans were shelved after a period of failed negotiations between the fighters.
It has been speculated since the beginning of this year that Davis could actually be nearing the end of his professional career, with rumours circulating that the 30-year-old could actually announce his retirement before the end of the year, hinting that his showdown with Paul could be the last time we see him in a ring.
In a since deleted post on X, ‘Tank’ issued an update on the situation regarding his potential retirement and whether he could walk away from the sport after he faces ‘The Problem Child’.
“No, dummy. This what the night of the fight consists of..”
Boxing fans remain hopeful that ‘Tank’ will continue with his boxing career beyond the end of the year, with a potential ‘dream-fight’ with WBC world lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson said to still be on the cards.
